 Gay animals
Dan Delong, an English teacher at Southwestern High School in Illinois, has been suspended after giving his students the assignment of reading “The Gay Animal Kingdom”, and article from the June 7, 2006, edition of Seed magazine, a science and culture publication.
The article was written by Jonah Lehrer and addresses research conducted by Joan Roughgarden, a Standford University biology professor who states she has documented homosexual societies among the more than 450 animal species.
A special School Board meeting has been set for 6 p.m. Monday to discuss any personnel/employee discipline.
So, perhaps the fear many from the Christian right have that homosexuality will be taught in schools is real…but hey, it’s only science, and since we all know the earth is on 6,000 years old, it really shouldn’t matter.
Students have set up a special facebook page in support of Mr. Delong, which has almost 1800 members.
